英語学習の備忘録 Vol.001

仕事柄、英語を使う機会が多いのですが、アジア系の人たちとの連携がメインで、なかなかネイティブの人との仕事は普段は少な目な感じ。

なので、できるだけネイティブスピーカーとの会話の機会を設けたく、自前でitalkiを使ってます。

先生は、エジプトに在住のアメリカ人のEyrin先生。

エジプトなので時差がアメリカほどなく、日本の夕方が現地の朝なので比較的スケジュールが合いやすいのでGood!

italkiで話して終わりだと、なかなか記憶に残らないので、復習がてらボキャブラリーなどを備忘録で残しておこうと(笑)

今回の学習テーマは、「STATISTICS AND TRENDS」。

いつもテキストを用意してくれてて、ビジネスシーンで使えそうな単語やフレーズを会話しながら学んでおります。

■Focus on vocabulary

1. editorial (adj.) :編集者の、編集上の

(英語の説明)

connected to making sure that printed words in newspapers, books or online writing is correct and appropriate for publishing

(例文)

The sales brochure is with the editorial department at the moment who are checking that all of the information is correct before we publish.

2. understaffed (adj.) :人員不足の

(英語の説明)

not enough employees for a company to function properly

(例文)

We all have a lot more work to do than normal as the company is understaffed at the moment.

3. stellar (adj.) :傑出した、花形の、主要な

(英語の説明)

being of a high standard, excellent

(例文)

The performance of this department has been stellar this year and the sales results prove that. We’ve never made so much profit before.

4. budget (n) :予算

(英語の説明)

the amount of money available to buy a particular thing

(例文)

The end of year party will have to be smaller this year as we don’t have enough money left in the budget.

5. obviously (adv.) :明らかに

(英語の説明)

in a way that shows that you think that the person you are communicating with already understands what is being said

(例文)

As there is a problem with the electricity, we obviously can’t finish the presentation today, so we will have to schedule it again for next week.

6. precise (adj.) :正確な、精密な

(英語の説明)

being correct and true

(例文)

Please make sure you are as precise as possible with the expected sales figure so we don’t have problems later.

7. offset (v) :相殺する

(英語の説明)

use the cost of one thing to reduce or cancel the effects of another cost

(例文)

The increase in sales we has from going to the conference more than offset the cost of our flights to Rome.

といった感じで、今後も備忘録として残していこうと思います。
